PUBLIC SAFETY

Three dogs killed in accidental kitchen fire

Henderson Fire Department units responded to a report of a structure fire Dec. 16. at 1441 Evening Song, located in the area of Paseo Verde and Stephanie Street.

The owner had returned home around 8:40 p.m. to find smoke coming from his garage and front door, and reported that he could see flames in the kitchen area.

The first fire department unit arrived approximately six minutes after the call and found smoke coming from the home. The homeowner was attempting to extinguish the flames with a garden hose and rescue three dogs.

Fire crews entered the home to find a fire in the kitchen, which was extinguished in less than 10 minutes. All three dogs died in the fire. The homeowner was treated for smoke inhalation but was not transported to the hospital. No fire department personnel were injured.

Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area, but there was smoke damage throughout the home. The preliminary report was that the fire was accidental, officials said.
