BASEBALL

Signups set for Mountain Ridge

Spring 2007 baseball signups for Mountain Ridge Little League will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, 13, 17 and 20 at Peter Piper Pizza, 7981 W. Tropical Parkway. Participants must present birth certificate and proof of address at time of registration. Mountain Ridge zoning boundaries are west of U.S. Highway 95 and north of Alexander Road.

BASKETBALL

Basketball Academy open to youth

Youth ages 7-17 are invited to participate in the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA's Basketball Academy of Sports & Academics. Top-notch facilities and expert teachers help competitive players master advanced game execution and technique. Boys and girls of all skill levels are welcome.

The program is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane. Cost is $82 per month. For more information, call 877-9622.

City seeks teams for leagues

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites adults age 40 and older to participate in winter basketball leagues from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Jan. 11 at the Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road. The fee is $225, plus $25 for officials' fees, per team. Members must sign up as a team. A minimum of four teams with five to 12 players each is needed for the league to proceed. Boys and girls ages 3-14 also are invited to participate in winter Saturday leagues beginning Jan. 9 at Brinley Community School, 6150 Smoke Ranch Road. The weekly leagues continue for eight weeks. Cost is $35 for ages 3-4, $45 for ages 5-6 and $65 for ages 7-14. Registration remains open until leagues are full, and volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, call 229-2642.

Signups open for kids' indoor play

Boys and girls ages 3-5 and their parents are invited to sign up for Itty Bitty Indoor Soccer at the Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive. The program will be held Tuesdays from 5 to 5:45 p.m. starting this week.

National wheelchair team hosts exhibition

The USA national team for power wheelchair soccer will hold a training camp and exhibition event Thursday through Saturday at the UNLV McDermott Complex South Gymnasium. Twelve power soccer athletes from around the country will be visiting Las Vegas to train for the inaugural Power Soccer World Cup, to be held in Japan in October.

The camp will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an exhibition game set for 1 p.m. Saturday. Coaches and team members will meet and greet the public. For more information, visit www.powersoccerusa.net.

Red Rock league signing up players

The SNFA Red Rock Fastpitch softball league is holding registration signups from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 16 at Big 5 Sporting Goods, at Durango Road at the Beltway; from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Sports Chalet in Summerlin; and from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 20 at Discovery Park in Aliante.

TENNIS

Junior team spring season starts soon

Junior Team Tennis is a recreational league conducted by the Nevada Tennis Association, offering boys and girls ages 8-18 the chance to enjoy team competition against players of similar age and ability. League teams are forming now.

YMCA offers a variety of classes

The Heinrich YMCA, 41441 Meadows Lane, will start conducting Beginning Tennis classes for juniors on Wednesday. The classes are for entry level players, ages 7-17, and the class time is 5 to 6:30 p.m. The fee is $57 for members and $70 for nonmembers.

Also, Intermediate Tennis classes for players ages 7-17 will begin Thursday. The class time is 5 to 6:30 p.m. The fee is $57 for members and $70 for nonmembers.

The YMCA also will begin Adult Drill sessions today for players who plat at 3.0 to 3.5. The times are Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. The fee is $47 for members and $60 for nonmembers for four sessions.

Also, Adult Beginner classes will begin on Wednesday for entry level players. The class time is 7 to 8:30 p.m. and the fee is $47 for members and $60 for nonmembers for four classes.

YMCA plans Wide World of Sports
