An informational meeting on Sunday about the Kitec pipe issue in Sun City Anthem has been canceled after a court ordered Pulte Homes not to speak with residents about the issue.
The meeting was meant to answer questions about letters sent out to Sun City Anthem residents regarding defective brass plumbing fittings in some homes.

Chamber hosts network breakfast
Daryl Morris of Nevada Capital Insurance will speak at the next Henderson Chamber of Commerce network breakfast Jan. 16.
The breakfast will be at the Half Shell restaurant, located at 30 E. Horizon Ridge Parkway. Networking begins at 7 a.m., and the breakfast is at 7:30 a.m.

Clothes needed for Street Teens
Street Teens, a nonprofit organization that assists homeless young people, is seeking donations.
The organization is collecting blankets, coats, instant-food items, nutritional bars, baby food, diapers, sweaters, tents and personal hygiene items.

Donations sought for homeless drive
UNLV's College of Education is asking for donations to help children, teens and adults who are currently or on the verge of becoming homeless.
Needed items include new or gently used blankets, socks, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, underwear and toiletry items. Cash also is accepted.

Vegas PBS announces story contest
Vegas PBS is holding its annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest.
The literacy-promoting challenge asks participants to write and illustrate an original short story. All area children in grades K-3 are eligible to compete. Illustrations are required, and a word count limit (by grade level) is strictly enforced.

Concert to feature 'Peter and the Wolf'
The Las Vegas Philharmonic plans its second annual Family Concert for 7 p.m. Jan. 13, including a performance of the classic musical tale "Peter and the Wolf," with narration by special guest Clint Holmes.
The event will be under the direction of music director Harold Weller and associate conductor Richard McGee.
Besides "Peter and the Wolf," a variety of familiar classics and movie scores will be performed by the full orchestra, including the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

Motorcycle auction to benefit museum
The 16th annual Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction hosted by MidAmerica Auctions of St. Paul, Minn., which will benefit the Clark County Museum, is slated to start at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 with a dinner auction. The event continues at 10 a.m. Jan. 12 and resumes at 9 a.m. Jan. 13 at South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The doors open to the public at noon on Jan. 11 for the 7 p.m. dinner auction. Anyone can attend the Jan. 11 evening dinner auction, but reservations are required for the dinner. Company offers free glaucoma screenings
This month is Glaucoma Awareness Month, and the 11 Vision Source offices in Las Vegas and Henderson are offering free glaucoma eye screenings from Jan. 22-27.

Glaucoma has no symptoms and can be detected only through an eye-exam, the company said in a statement.
Classes to help smokers kick habit
Nevada Cancer Institute plans smoking cessation classes beginning 6 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the research and care facility at 10441 W. Twain Ave.

School district seeks memorabilia
The Clark County School District's 50th Anniversary Archive Committee is looking for memorabilia for the permanent Archive Center. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, documents, photographs, early yearbooks, old classroom equipment and items of general interest pertaining to the history of Clark County Schools will be gathered and cataloged.
Items can be loaned, donated or photographed by the committee to be included in its growing archives, which will be preserved for and shared with future generations.
