Corporate Challenge aims to expand
The Corporate Challenge, the largest amateur athletic competition in Nevada, is looking to involve more local companies and organizations in the annual event, a 12-week competition starting March 29.
Companies may register for participation through Feb. 9.
Costs range from $1,750 for companies of up to 150 employees to $2,360 for companies of 2,000 or more.
The Corporate Challenge is operated by the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

WRESTLING
Former Spartan honored in Arizona
Cimarron-Memorial High School graduate Rayes Gonzales was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Peoria Tournament of Champions in Peoria, Ariz., on Jan. 6.
Gonzales graduated from Cimarron-Memorial in 2001 after becoming a two-time state champion in wrestling and football. During his high school wrestling career, he won the Peoria event for four straight years.
After high school, Gonzales accepted a scholarship to Boston University, where he competed for four years before graduating in 2006 and accepting a position as assistant coach.
Before his trip to Arizona for the induction ceremony, Gonzales returned to Las Vegas and visited Cimarron-Memorial to practice with the Spartan wrestling team and his former coaches Tim Jeffries and Mike Garcia, something he does at least once every year.
Wrestling 101 set at Durango YMCA
Registration is under way for youth ages 6-13 for Wrestling 101 at the Durango Hills Community Center, operated by YMCA of Southern Nevada, 3521 N. Durango Drive.
Participants will learn wrestling fundamentals, including rules, proper techniques and safety skills.
