View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Cadet Hugh McLennan, son of Cheryll Norton and step-son of Clifton Norton of Las Vegas, was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant at Missouri Military Academy's middle school in Mexico, Mo.

McLennan earned the school's award of Barracks Bar for the month of November for maintaining a high level of organization and cleanliness in the barracks.

He also won the Military Bar for disciplinary proficiency in military duty and drill.

Larissa Andersen, 22, graduated in December from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a bachelor's degree in secondary education in English and theater.

Anderson is a 2002 honors graduate of the International Baccalaureate program at Valley High School.

She is the daughter of Kim and Wes Andersen of Las Vegas.

Daniel Kozik, of Henderson, has been awarded an academic scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2007 fall semester.

Kozik is receiving the Dean's Scholarship Award, based on academic merit and potential for achievement in college. He will graduate this year from Foothill High School. He is the son of Dan and Linda Kozik.

His honors and awards include: an academic letter in forensics; third place forensics awards at Bonanza High School's Tim Purdy Memorial Tournament and the Palo Verde High School Invitational Tournament; a varsity letter for band and superior rating in band competition.

Kozik's activities include earning his Eagle Award from the Boy Scouts of America, serving as captain of his junior varsity bowling team, playing goalie in soccer, and running track and field.

Kozik plans to study business administration.
