Excerpt from "Return of the Poet"
Grandfather
When your daughter becomes a mother
And your child has a child of her own,
The pride that swells up inside you
Is a feeling that you've never known.
When the babe that you held in your arms
Has a baby clutched tight to her breast,
The circle of life notches forward
And your family is once again blessed.
For the girl that once called you Daddy
And held on so tight to your hand,
Is a woman now known as Mommy;
-- and you've been promoted to GRAND.
