View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have attended local schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Alex Andresian, 15, has attained Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America. His Eagle Court of Honor was held March 26.
For his Eagle project, Andresian helped with landscaping the Marian Residence in Henderson, a Catholic Charities organization that helps elderly women.
Andresian and 39 other Boy Scout Troop 903 members moved 40 tons of rock, added a tree, ground cover and flowering bushes to make a garden that is low maintenance and conserves water. It took Andresian more than 100 hours to help complete the project. Many local businesses contributed.
Andresian just completed ninth grade at Bishop Gorman High School. He is the son of Teresa and Shahen Andresian of Henderson.
Andresian has held many positions within the Boy Scouts, including scribe, chaplain aide, assistant patrol leader and senior patrol leader.
He also enjoys basketball, golf and plays varsity tennis, volunteers for his church's hospitality ministry and is a house representative at school and a member of the Academic Society.
Brianne Perkins, a 2006 Boulder City High School valedictorian, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Southern Utah University.
Perkins is studying psychology, with a minor in criminology.
She is the daughter of James and Ruby Perkins of Boulder City.
Jasmine Symone Gates, 17, has been selected for induction into the "Who's Who Among High School Students, 2006-2007."
Gates just completed 11th grade at Las Vegas Academy.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, was selected to participate in the Summer Business Institute Program of Las Vegas, was recognized as one of the top African-American Scholars for Nevada -- 2007, will represent her high school at Nevada's Girls State Program in Reno, and teaches dance to girls ages 3-13 at the Silver Mesa Community Center.
Gates is the daughter of Lorraine and R.L. Gates of North Las Vegas.
Russell W. Perry of Las Vegas was promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Nevada Army National Guard.
Perry is assigned to the 1st Squadron 221st Cavalry, Nevada ARNG, based in Las Vegas.
He is currently attached to the Wisconsin ARNG's 1st Battalion 121st Field Artillery stationed in Kuwait, where he takes part in convoy security escort missions.
His wife, Brandy, resides in Las Vegas.
