Creative Health Solutions offers prospective patients a comprehensive approach to weight loss and health issues.

Located in the medical offices behind St. Rose Dominican Hospital, San Martin campus, the practice is owned and operated by Lindsey Ricciardi and her husband, Dr. Dominic Ricciardi. Lindsey is a licensed clinical psychologist and Dominic is a board-certified internist, and they focus on internal and mental health. They said they hope to make both a priority for their patients.

The husband and wife team behind Creative Health Solutions, which has been open since June, both have a background in obesity and weight management, and as a result, are offering a weight loss program for interested patients.

Every Monday at 6 p.m., the Ricciardis host a free weight management seminar, which serves as a first step for people interested in losing weight.

"We strongly emphasize not just the weight loss, but the weight maintenance," Lindsey said. "If you haven't made lifestyle changes, the weight will come back."

She added that patients are given a full medical work-up and behavioral assessment prior to beginning the weight loss program, which revolves around making small lifestyle changes.

"We want to get people away from the crash, fast diets," Lindsey said.

"We say it's more a marathon. If you can make very small, subtle changes, you'll be successful," Dominic said.

Every patient has to make and keep a food journal. Dominic said most of his patients don't like to do it, but end up realizing its merits.

The duo also gives patients helpful hints. They said eating out of a larger container will make people eat more than when they would eat out of a small container. Also, they want people to eat what they like, just to eat less of what they like and to move around a little more.

"Women usually will deprive themselves of certain foods," Lindsey said. "We really try to push people away from deprivation."

Creative Health Solutions hosts a group therapy session each week where participants are weighed and blood pressure is taken. The food logs are looked at during the meeting and patients give one another support along their journey.

"Our assessment really hones in on what type of person they are," Dominic said.

According to the Riccardis, each patient is given a personal treatment plan based on his or her strengths.

"We will not recommend anything unless there is strong research to support it," Dominic added.

Creative Health Solutions is located at 8285 W. Arby Ave., Suite 165, in the medical office directly behind St. Rose Dominican, San Martin hospital.
