SPOTLIGHT ON: Pick Up Stix
9809 W. Flamingo Road, 247-6903; 6340 W. Charleston Blvd., 870-1322; 9350 W. Sahara Ave., 838-9600; 2101 N. Rainbow Blvd., 636-6600
When thinking about what to eat on your way home from work, think Chinese take-out. It can be eaten fresh and even tastes good after a day or two in the fridge.
The first Pick Up Stix restaurant was opened in 1989 in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., by Charles Zhang. His concept called for a casual Chinese restaurant that satisfied American consumers' demand for fast, fresh Chinese food cooked to order. He developed traditional Asian recipes and adapted them to American tastes by reducing the oils and adding wine, vinegar and soy sauce to create more flavorful dishes.
Signature entrées include House Special chicken prepared with white wine, garlic and soy sauce. Other popular dishes are orange peel chicken, Szechwan beef, Mongolian beef, garlic shrimp, shrimp chow mein, lemon chicken, sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli and teriyaki bowls. All entrees are served with steamed white or brown rice. Vegetables and tofu can be substituted for meat in any entrée.
Sharable appetizers include cream cheese wontons, Asian lettuce wraps, crispy dumplings and egg rolls. There are two soups: won ton and hot and sour, and two salads: Chinese chicken and Mandarin garden.
Pick Up Stix is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
