Desert dweller prefers camellike climate

Karen Witham, a real estate agent who now resides in Siena, can't seem to get enough of the desert. After raising two children in Denver as a single mother, she decided to relocate to Saudi Arabia. She said she was always drawn to the desert, especially the exotic and mysterious Middle East.

Witham recalled that her adult son begged her not to go and said, "Can't you just go to Arizona?"

Stephanie Rigley: International first
Teen tops competition at 2007 Morges Cup event in Switzerland

It was her first international competition. She traveled to Switzerland, without her coach. It seemed like a daunting task, especially for a 13-year-old.

But Stephanie Rigley rose to the occasion, winning first place in the short program and first place overall in her age group at the 2007 Morges Cup in Morges, Switzerland, near Lake Geneva.
