Church offers summer activities

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church is offering a weekly summer Christian day camp for grades kindergarten through fifth grade from Monday to Aug. 10. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 6500 W. Flamingo Road.

Sandou provides circus skills training

Sandou Theatrical Circus School, located at 6375 S. Arville St., Suite 7B, presents its second annual circus summer camp for children ages 4 through teens through Aug. 17.

Students can learn gymnastics, acrobatics, trampoline, juggling, trapeze, tightwire, hand balancing, unicycle riding, aerial silk and hoop. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Teens can get musical theater training

Red Mountain Music Camp presents a week-long musical theater training program for high school-aged students at El Splendido Ranch located near Panguitch, Utah, from Aug. 5-11.

Choir, orchestra issues call for members

The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society is looking to expand its membership, and is inviting singers from around the valley to sing the choral-orchestra masterworks with the Musical Arts Chorus and Orchestra.

Membership is by audition.

The society will prepare music by Johannes Brahms for its Nov. 11 concert in UNLV's Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The new season includes a Christmas program and a pops concert. Rehearsals for the Musical Arts Chorus begin on Aug. 26 and are held from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Sundays in UNLV's Beam Music Center, Room 159. There are openings in all voice parts.

Nevada Power to host energy expo

Nevada Power Co. hosts the Energy Assistance Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 4 at its main office, located at 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Customers seeking assistance with their utility bills or information on how to make their homes more energy efficient are invited to attend. Twelve community agencies also will be present, including Clark County Social Services, Comfort Savings, Las Vegas Senior Lifeline and Lutheran Social Services.

Hospital to give sun tips for seniors

Southern Hills Hospital will host Sun Safety in Seniors from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 22.

The program is free and open to the public and includes lunch. Reserve a space by calling 233-5300.

Clinic holds weight management seminar

Creative Health Solutions hosts a free weight management seminar on Mondays at 6 p.m. The program is led by Lindsey Ricciardi and Dr. Dominic Ricciardi and is held at St. Rose Dominican, San Martin campus. Exact location varies; call 363-6005.

Seniors

Trip planned for Utah Shakespearean fest

The Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, has scheduled an overnight trip for seniors ages 50 and older to Cedar City and the fall season of the 2007 Utah Shakespearean Festival.

A motor coach will depart from the center at 8 a.m. on Oct. 11 and will return at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. Price is $168 per person for a double room and $210 for a single room. The price includes transportation and show tickets and the deadline for payment is Sept. 10.
