St. Rose Dominican Hospitals is the recipient of a $200,000 gift from the Wheeler family of Henderson.

The gift will create the Wheeler Family Foundation Scholarship to provide scholarships to deserving nursing students who have been accepted into the registered nursing program at Nevada State College.

St. Rose trauma center receives $500,000

U.S. Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., secured $500,000 for St. Rose Dominican Hospital's Siena Trauma Center, a nonprofit.

St. Rose Dominican Hospital formed a federal partnership to support its trauma center at the Siena Campus, which began level III trauma services in 2005. St. Rose's service area can treat up to 500 patients per year.

This service requires constant training, equipment upgrades and maintenance. The cost is especially significant in the initial years of operation.
