LITERARY LAS VEGAS

Henderson resident Lupe Franco Bloch's first novel "Abandoned" traces the tale of Maria Gonzales, who endures the death of her parents and an assault by the son of her new guardians. Finally, she and her baby are abandoned at a haunted ranch.

Excerpt from "Abandoned"

"I hope Johnny makes her happy, but I have my doubts. You know he attacked her... Is it my fault that Johnny is weak?"

"Stop thinking of blame... weak or strong... Johnny will grow into his responsibilities. Remember he's never had any before."

"You're right. When Carlota wanted to bring Maria to our house, I told her I was afraid for her because she is so beautiful and so trusting... or should I say naive? But I never thought the danger was right here in our own home. I think that's why I'm still so angry with Johnny. Not only did he violate Maria, he violated our home."
