TIMELY TRIBUTE
Officials pay respect, give medals to war veterans

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Senator John Ensign, R-Nev., put political differences aside on Memorial Day, and sat shoulder-to-shoulder in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Boulder City to honor this country's military heroes.

Also there were Congressman Jon Porter, R-Nev., and representatives for Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and Congressman Dean Heller, R-Nev., Gov. Jim Gibbons and Mayor Bob Ferraro.

BASEBALL: Solid season
BCHS team places third in league tournament

The Boulder City High School varsity baseball team had a good season, but the boys from Boulder didn't advance as far in the post-season playoffs as they had hoped for head coach Bill Strachan. They needed to finish in second place at the 2007 NIAA 3A Southern League Baseball Championship Tournament at Pahrump Valley on May 10-12 to advance to the state championships and defend their 2006 state title, but they could only manage third place.

"We played well this season until the very end, when we had quite the letdown," senior captain Brett Moravec said. "The injuries really caught up with us during the playoffs, even though we had a solid year."
