SPRINGING TO LIFE
Preserve plans Friday grand opening

The $250 million Las Vegas Springs Preserve is on track to open on Friday. The entrance is at 333 S. Valley View Blvd., near the U.S. Highway 95 interchange.

Jesse Davis, marketing manager, said the long-awaited cultural site was Las Vegas' answer for residents and tourists seeking a different kind of outing. The site is expected to attract an estimated 600,000 visitors a year.

Nine players from Nevada to compete

The annual Las Vegas Founders Junior Golf Championship will return to Angel Park Golf Club next week, and while most of the youth competing are hoping to attract the attention of college recruiters, at least one local player will be teeing off with a different goal in mind.

Chris Plappert, a graduating senior at Arbor View High School who recently placed third at the prep golf state championship tournament, signed to play golf and go to school at the University of Nevada in Reno in November.
