Durango drill team dominates
School wins countywide competition

VIEW STAFF WRITER

Durango High School's Air Force JROTC program placed first in the Clark County School District's drill meet, which was held in April, marking the sixth time the high school has won the competition in the last 10 years.

The showdown included all 16 Clark County institutions with an JROTC program, and is the biggest drill meet of the academic year, covering the color guard and both the unarmed and armed drill. Durango's program is led by retried Air Force Lt. Col. James McEvoy and retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Curtis Sweigart.

Arbor View star looking forward to tough competition

The annual Las Vegas Founders Junior Golf Championship will return to Angel Park Golf Club next week, and while most of the youth competing are hoping to attract the attention of college recruiters, at least one local player will be teeing off with a different goal in mind.

Chris Plappert, a graduating senior at Arbor View High School who recently placed third at the prep golf state championship tournament, signed to play golf and go to school at the University of Nevada in Reno in November.
