Local author to sign books

Las Vegas resident and veteran Chicago police officer Gina Gallo will give a lecture and book signing at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Desert Willow Community Center, 2020 Horizon Ridge Parkway.

As a professional writer for 15 years, Gallo's stories have appeared in both mainstream and police-oriented magazines nationwide and abroad.

The event is free and open to the public.

Speaker to talk about Yucca Mountain

Dennis Sorenson of Bechtel SAIC Co. will speak at the Henderson Chamber of Commerce's network breakfast on June 19 at the Wildhorse Golf Club at 2100 W. Warm Springs Road.

Networking begins at 7 a.m., and breakfast provided by Express Oh! will begin at 7:45 a.m.

Bodies exhibit to hold blood drive

Bodies...The Exhibition and United Blood Services have joined forces to bring a second blood drive to the Tropicana from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. All donors will receive one free ticket to Bodies...The Exhibition and Folies Bergere.

According to UBS, more than 300 pints of blood must be collected from donors each day to meet patient needs in Las Vegas alone.

Anyone interested in donating can make an appointment in advance or walk-in.

Leadership Henderson accepting applications

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its 2008 Leadership Henderson class.

The eight-month program provides community leaders with education and skill strengthening by providing a variety of insights into issues affecting Henderson and Southern Nevada.

Applications will be accepted until July 6.

'Weird Al' Yankovic to perform in Henderson

Singer and parody artist "Weird Al" Yankovic will perform his music and comedy show at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway.

SCHOOL

Applications available on the Internet

Nevada State High School recently added an online enrollment application to its newly designed Web site.

Students now can register for classes, buy books, read the quarterly newsletter, apply for scholarships and find events on the calendar.

Nevada State High School is a charter school designed for 11th- and 12th-grade students who want to take college classes and high school classes concurrently. The Web site is www.earlycollegenv.com.

Classes of '67 sought for reunion

Clark and Western high schools will welcome alumni from the Class of 1967 to their 40th High School Class Reunion on June 15 and 16. Organizers for both schools are looking for their 1967 classmates.
