BASKETBALL

Hoops for Hope camp set for July

Top college and senior high school basketball players will teach game fundamentals to boys and girls ages 9-14 at the free, two-day Hoops for Hope camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 20-21 at the Doolittle Community Center.

The camp includes a T-shirt, water bottle, sports bag, daily breakfast, snack and lunch. Parents of participants are invited to a free workshop on July 21 to prepare for college recruiters and opportunities.

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, Golden Gaming and the Las Vegas Review-Journal are sponsoring the event.

Registration is limited and closes July 12. Call 229-2158.

CHEERLEADING

Durango YMCA offers Tiny Tots

The Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, will hold a Tiny Tots cheerleading session through Aug. 4 from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays. Youth ages 4 and 5 are invited to attend. Cost is $70.

FOOTBALL

NYFL opening registration for fall

The Nevada Youth Football League will begin registration for the fall season from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturdays and from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at 7380 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 150.

Teams will compete in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson.

Player registration is $180 for players and $80 for cheerleaders. Practice starts Aug. 1. For more information, visit www.gonyfl.com.

GOLF

Pro-Scratch set for Angel Park

The 2007 Cleveland Pro-Scratch will be held at Angel Park Golf Club on July 22-23. Two-person teams made up of one professional and one scratch amateur will compete for a purse of more than $12,000.

SWIMMING

YMCA offering swimming lessons

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, offers swimming lessons throughout the summer months. Classes are offered for all ages and ability levels.

TENNIS

Friday night socials return to DTC

The Darling Tennis Center is welcoming back the Friday Night Mixed Socials from 6 to 8 p.m. on every first and third Friday during the summer. Players can bring a friend or come alone and get paired up. The cost is $7 or free for DTC pass holders.

The NTA summer league also is taking registrations at the center. Call 229-2100.

VOLLEYBALL

UNLV to host five summer camps

UNLV will be hosting five volleyball camps this summer at the Cox Pavilion: the high school girls team camp on July 16-20, the youth camp on July 19-21, the high school camp on July 16-18, the boys camp on July 24-25, and the college prep camp on July 26-29. Costs vary.

Olympians to host Durango clinic

Durango High School will host a volleyball clinic for boys and girls featuring two former Olympians, Charlene Johnson and Stacy Sykora, and former UCLA player Irene Renteria as clinicians. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 9-12 at Durango.
