View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. The Summerlin Lions Club presented its student of the month award to four local teens.

Riley Palmer, who is active in cross country, basketball, swimming, and is e-board treasurer, was the group's pick for October. Palmer performs community service projects for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jacob Matthew Parker, a member of the Cimarron- Memorial High School Renaissance Program, marching band, symphonic concert band, and a two-year participant in the Las Vegas State Honor Band Ensemble, was the Lion's Club's student of the month for November.

Pate Thomas, a student at Cimarron-Memorial High School, was the December student of the month.

Thomas was junior class president, e-board 1st vice president, varsity tennis captain, played varsity basketball and golf, participated in the school's Renaissance program, and volunteers for the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society, and First Christan Church's food pantry.

The January student of the month was Kelsie Kirkwood.

Kirkwood, an honor-roll student, was her school's sophomore class vice president, junior class vice president, student body 2nd vice president and she participated in the Renaissance program for seven years.

She has played on her school's volleyball, tennis, and soccer teams.

Some of the community services she performs are volunteering at Vacation Bible School at Calvary Chapel, working the concession stand for soccer tournaments, sealing envelopes for Molasky Junior High School, and tutoring junior high students.

Bryan R. Sulanke, of North Las Vegas, was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant in the Nevada Army National Guard in October.

Sulanke is assigned to the 1st Squadron 221st Cavalry, Nevada ARNG, based in Las Vegas.

He is currently attached to the Wisconsin ARNG's 1st Battalion 121st Field Artillery (SECFOR) stationed in the State of Kuwait, where he takes part in convoy security escort missions.

His wife, Amy, lives in North Las Vegas.
