ANTHEM

Sun City residents can meet HOA candidates

Residents of Sun City Anthem will have the opportunity to meet the 12 candidates for the homeowners' association board of directors on different days in the coming weeks at the Independence Center, 2460 Hampton Road.

On Sunday and Monday, the candidates will participate in a forum at 7 p.m. Each candidate will receive a set of questions and a question pulled from a hat, and can give a short response.

Another set of forums will be held April 15 and 16 at 7 p.m.

Ballots will be distributed by mail and must be returned by April 30. Winners will be determined in May.

There are 12 candidates for four open positions on the board. The candidates, in alphabetical order, are: Rosalyn Berman, Edward Burrell, Roger Cooper, Mike Dixon, Bob Frank, Barry Friedman, Jeremy Fritz, David Green, Nelson Orth, Ed Rucinski, Phyllis Washburn and Carl Weinstein.

Chamber hosts network opportunities

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce will host two networking opportunities in March.

Susie Rutherford and Jillian Roederer of Mortgage M.D. will speak at the Henderson Chamber of Commerce network breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The breakfast will be held at the Half Shell restaurant, 30 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce will host a mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Pet'ographic, 10271 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 116.

All chamber members and the public are invited to attend both events.

Chamber launches spotlight program

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce recently launched its Spotlight and Member Discount programs to offer new ways for chamber member's businesses to benefit from free or no-cost marketing exposure.

With the Spotlight Program, chamber members can add their business advertisement to the chamber's Web site for free. Ads will go through a rotation, with each ad guaranteed four facings each day, every day of the year.

For $250 per year, members can upgrade to the Deluxe Spotlight Program and can upload a logo and direct link to the company's Web site.

The Member Discount is free to member businesses and allows members to post coupons for their products and services in the discounts section of the Web site.

Once uploaded, the ad or coupon will join rotation within 48 hours.

Galleria at Sunset hosts March events

The Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road, will host several events in March.

All of the events are free and open to the public unless noted. For classes at the Henderson Community Relations Office, RSVP prior to the event at the location.

The Easter Bunny will hop into the Galleria at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday at two Peter Cottontail's All-Star Easter Bash events. Dora the Explorer will make an appearance at the event.

Local teens will participate in a fashion show featuring Macy's prom wear at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the lower level of Macy's Court.

The Fern Adair Conservatory of the Arts will give a student performance of dance and vocals at the lower level of Macy's Court on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. They will perform again on March 24 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Learn how to protect from identity theft at the Henderson Community Relations Office at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Learn how to start a neighborhood watch 6:30 p.m. on March 21 at the Henderson Community Relations Office.

Reverend presents higher way class

The Rev. Jim Serada will present a Vernon Study Group on the topic The Mystic Path to Freedom at 7 p.m. on March 27 at Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The Art Institute hosts fantasy art exhibit

The Art Institute, along with Sony Online Entertainment, will host The Masters of Fantasy Art: A Tribute to Keith Parkinson now through April 2 at The Art Institute of Las Vegas, 2350 Corporate Circle.

The exhibit displays the convergence of fine art and technology with artwork by seminal artist Keith Parkinson and his work "\Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

The late Parkinson influenced the artistic work for "Vanguard: Saga of Heroes," a multiplayer online role-playing game that launched in January.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Teens to strut runway for ballet's benefit

The Teen Fashion Show 2007 is slated for 8:30 a.m. on March 25 at the Fashion Show mall's Great Hall, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event will feature the latest styles and fashions for teens and will seek to help raise money for the Nevada Ballet Theatre.

The price is $100 each for adults and children.

The event will be presented by the Nevada Ballet Theatre and sponsored by Nordstrom at the Fashion Show mall.

Scintas to sing on behalf of HACA

The Scintas will donate half of every ticket sold for their 7 p.m. show on April 27 to support the Henderson Allied Community Advocates Endowment.

Tickets must be purchased through the Leadership Henderson Class of 2006 in order for the profits to go toward HACA.

The price is $68 per person and include a meet and greet with the Scintas after the show.

The Scintas perform at the Sahara.

Troupe to put on Neil Simon play

The Las Vegas Little Theatre will present "Jake's Women" by Neil Simon at the Las Vegas Little Theatre Mainstage, 3920 Schiff Drive.

Performances are slated for 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays from March 23-April 8.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $17 for senior citizens and students. There also are group rates on request.

REGIS UNIVERSITY

Masters of arts program launched

Regis University-Las Vegas recently launched its masters of arts specialization program.

The program offers individually designed degrees to help students achieve their graduate goals. If students are unable to find the degree they are looking for, they can speak with a faculty adviser about creating a program to fit their needs. Each student's learning goals help determine what courses will be included.

Vo-Tech to celebrate 40th anniversary

The Southern Nevada Vocation-Technical Center will celebrate its 40th anniversary Friday and Saturday with a variety of events.

All former staff and alumni are invited to tour the campus, located at 5710 Mountain Vista St., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

An adult-only reception will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school. Attendees will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, refreshments, a Power Point presentation, performances by SNVTC's groups, school spirit items and a raffle.

Saturday morning events beginning at 7 a.m. include a golf scramble at Desert Willow Golf Course, mixed-couple tennis on campus, three on three basketball, bingo in the quad area and a 5k run or fun run.

At noon, there will be a barbecue, followed by class meetings divided into decades.

At 6 p.m. on Saturday, there will be an adult-only dinner buffet followed by a dance.

The cost for the weekend's events is $25. The golf scramble is an additional $40.

UNLV

Institute hosting two discussions

The Black Mountain Institute at UNLV will host two discussions on Saturday and Wednesday.

BMI associate director and UNLV professor Richard Wiley will read from his novel, "Commodore Perry's Minstrel Show," at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The novel is a prequel to Wiley's PEN/Faulkner Award-winning novel "Soldiers in Hiding," and is a sword-swinging novel infused with Japanese etiquette.

The reading will take place at the Barrick Museum auditorium on the UNLV campus.

The BMI will host another event on Wednesday. Authors and historians will participate in the panel "The Vietnam War in Light of Iraq" at 7 p.m.

Authors Tim O'Brien and Robert Stone will join historian Charles Herring, UNLV English professor John Irsfeld, Schaffer fellow and Vietnam native Vu Tran and Iraq war veteran/ conscientious objector Jimmy Castellanos for the discussion.

The panel will meet at Doc Rando Hall on the UNLV campus.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Professor to discuss mathematics in nature

Old Dominion University professor John Adam will lecture on mathematics in nature at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Barrick Museum Auditorium at UNLV.

He said rainbows, river meanders, spider webs, honey combs and markings on animal coats can all be described in mathematical terms.

The event is free and open to the public.

Second session offered for space math camp

UNLV will offer a second free information session on its middle and high school summer space math camps from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The session will highlight the purpose and content of the university's space-related summer math camps scheduled for June.

Students entering grades 6-11 in fall 2007 are invited to attend. High school seniors who are interested in space-related math careers also are invited to attend the session.

The information session will be held at UNLV's Paradise campus at 851 E. Tropicana Ave.
