Reggie Powers Mojave High School Junior

SPORTS: football, wrestling, track and field

GPA: 3.0

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

* Completed an undefeated season (61-0) on his way to an individual state wrestling championship in the 189-pound weight class last month, also leading Mojave to its first team state championship.

* Won four individual tournaments this past season, at the San Diego Holiday Classic, Tournament of Champions (Torrance, Calif.), Blackhawke Invitational and the Bulldog Grabbler.

* Became the first Mojave wrestler to top the 40-win mark in two consecutive seasons in 2007.

* Won a national championship in Reno in April 2006 at the Cliff Keen World of Wrestling National Championships.

COACH: "I have coached Reggie and his brother DeAndre for the past eight years, and he is capable of doing anything he wants to do on the mat. He continues to improve with every match, which has to be a scary thought for his opponents," said Bob Blanner, Mojave assistant wrestling coach.

FUTURE: "Winning state this year really bumps the bar up, but I think this is going to be the greatest year for me since I'm moving (to Ohio for senior year of high school). I'm going to try to go to Ohio State, since they've been looking at me."

PARENTS: Reginald Powers Sr. and Lisa Pearson
