LV Masters rank high at nationals

The Las Vegas Masters swim club placed eighth in men's team competition and 26th in women's at the United States Masters Swimming 2007 Short Course Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash., May 17-20.

City offers deals on swimming lessons

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services is partnering with the After-School All-Stars program to offer up to $25 in free group swimming lessons or competitive swimming sport participation to Nevada residents ages 5-17, or a $25 discount off the $40 summer season swim pass at five city pools this summer.

To take advantage of the offer, fill out a blue registration form available at Municipal Pool, 431 E. Bonanza Road. Youths are limited to one sponsorship this summer.

Registration is open for swim lessons and teams offered June 11 through Aug. 11.

BASKETBALL

TBA registers for summer camp

The Tarkanian Basketball Academy is now accepting registration for its 2007 Summer Camp Programs. Also, TBA is offering Sunday Skills Camp, a weekly two-hour basketball class for boys and girls of all ages and skill levels held every Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. The cost is $20 per class.

YMCA to hold basketball academy

The Durango Hills YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, offers a basketball academy for youth in grades 2-12. Classes will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays from June 6 through July 13. Boys and girls are welcome to participate.

Durango to host camp sessions in June

Durango High School is having two sessions of basketball camp this summer on June 12-15 and 18-21. The cost is $125 and each camper receives a T-shirt, photo package and Nike basketball, as well as awards and prizes.

Players sought for summer leagues

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites boys and girls ages 3-14 to participate in summer Saturday basketball leagues that begin June 16 at Brinley Community School, 6150 Smoke Ranch Road.

The leagues continue for six weeks. The cost is $35 for ages 3-4, $45 for ages 5-6, and $65 for ages 7-14.

Bishop Gorman camp set for June

The Bishop Gorman High School girls basketball program, back-to-back state champions, will be hosting a basketball camp from noon until 3 p.m. June 18-20 at the Christ the King church gym. Cost is $100.

Summer girls camp planned

Christ the King Church's second annual Summer Girls Basketball Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily June 25-27 at the church gymnasium at Tropicana Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive. Girls in grades 4-10 can participate. The cost is $95.

Area youth needed at tryouts

The Southern Nevada Youth Sports Association along with Arbor View High School football are welcoming all incoming middle school students zoned for Arbor View to try out for the Middle School League football team at 6 p.m. on Friday at Centennial Hills Park.

Faith Lutheran wins state title

Faith Lutheran High School shot a 403 in the final round of the Class 3A boys state golf tournament on May 15 to finish at 825 overall, topping Boulder City's mark of 852 to win the team state title.

The Crusaders were led by Charlie Harrison, who won the 3A individual title by shooting a 5-under 67 on the final day at Somersett Country Club.

Fundraiser to benefit local soccer team

The second annual Nutmeg Invitational golf tournament fundraiser to benefit the Las Vegas Heat FC '93 state champion soccer team will be held on Sunday at Red Rock Country Club's Arroyo Golf Course.

Fees are $500 per foursome or $125 per player. The first-place team will each win a set of Nike irons.

The second annual Scout Golf Tournament benefiting Boy Scout Troop 678 will be held at 7:30 a.m. June 16 at Aliante Golf Club.

Tryouts set for kung fu team

Tryouts are being conducted to form a National Chinese Kung Fu team including men, women, teens and children. The team will compete in ongoing tournaments.
