ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING EVENT PLANNED FOR FRIDAY

GROUP TO HOST MEETING ON FIRE HAZARDS IN THE HOME

Shalom Hadassah will discuss the importance of knowing potential fire hazards in the home and how to prevent them at its Wednesday meeting.

The guest speaker will be Katherine Hooper, a public education officer for the Henderson Fire Department.

The group will meet at 10 a.m. at the Ner Tamid Synagogue, 55 N. Valle Verde Drive.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR TO BE HELD SATURDAY

The Vegas Viking lodge of the Sons of Norway will hold its Christmas bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

Featured items include traditional and modern Scandinavian-baked goods such as lefse and rosettes; Norwegian heart-shaped waffles; Norwegian holiday crafts, many directly from Scandinavia, such as ornaments, tiles, magnets, Nisse and Viking figurines, T-shirts, Norwegian rosemaled calendars and more.

Proceeds will benefit the Vegas Viking Lodge of Sons of Norway, a nonprofit organization formed in May 1992 to promote Norwegian heritage through scholarships and a variety of special events featuring traditional and contemporary programs.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY NOV. 26

Lake Las Vegas invites chefs to put on their aprons to celebrate the holidays around the world during its second annual Gingerbread House Competition. Entry forms are due by Nov. 26.

Chefs of all ages and professional abilities are invited to submit a homemade, completely edible gingerbread house for a chance to win cash and other prizes.

With four categories of competition -- youth, ages 12 and under; teen, ages 13 to 17; home cooks and culinary students; and professional chefs -- bakers have no excuse not to ready their kitchens for this year's holiday event.

Entrants will be limited, and completed houses must be delivered to Lake Las Vegas Resort between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 29-30.

RESIDENTS TO HOLD HELPING FOR THE HOLIDAYS EVENT

The fifth annual Helping for the Holidays open house hosted by Dave and Lisa Johnson and Lullaby Connection will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at 2440 High Vista Circle.

Guests must bring a new, unwrapped toy or package of diapers. Donations are for the Lullaby Connection, Child Haven, Family to Family and the Clark County Health District. There will be carolers and a cookie buffet.

BISHOP EDDIE LONG TO SPEAK IN DECEMBER

Bishop Eddie Long, pastor of a 25,000-member church in Atlanta and host of a television broadcast seen in 170 countries, will make a rare appearance in Las Vegas at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at The Church at South Las Vegas, 3051 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. He also will speak from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 4.

Long also is in Las Vegas to participate in a series of teaching sessions involving pastors who are affiliated with the Association of Related Ministries, founded by Henderson Pastor Benny Perez, who recognized the need for church unity throughout America and the world.
