MOJAVE MAX EMERGENCE CONTEST GETS UNDER WAY

The Mojave Max Emergence Contest is under way. Students of Clark County now can enter their guesses as to when the desert tortoise will emerge in spring 2008.

Mojave Max is a live tortoise residing at the Red Rock National Conservation Area Visitors Center, and his emergence is a good indicator of when spring will arrive in Southern Nevada. Students are encouraged to study the behavior of desert tortoises before guessing when they believe Mojave Max will first exit his burrow each year.

The winner of the contest and his or her class will receive medals, T-shirts, family park passes, a pizza party and a trip to Red Rock National Conservation Area. For more information and contest entry forms, visit www.mojavemax.com or www.accessclarkcounty.com.
