The Las Vegas Strip is changing once again, this time in Henderson.

Plans for the M resort, spa and casino were unveiled on Nov. 7. The 11-story tower will be situated on approximately 80 acres on Las Vegas Boulevard South.

"This hotel is sexy, it is exciting, and it will be the place to be," said Anthony A. Marnell III, the resort's chairman and chief executive officer.

The $1 billion first phase is planned to open in spring 2009. There will be about 400 guest rooms, including 1,200- to 2,400-square-foot suites.

"We have looked at what we don't want at the gateway of our city, and this is the first time we looked at what we do want," Mayor Jim Gibson said. "This will help set us apart in a unique way."

Marnell said he wants the M to be a vacation spot for Las Vegans.

"In the simplest form, I want this to be the best local destination resort in the city," he said.

Dining options will be vast, including a steak and seafood restaurant, Italian eatery, buffet, 24-hour cafe, poolside grill, deli, coffee and pastry cafe and a tower restaurant. Four lounges and bars will be laid out throughout the resort, including a beer bar with 100 beers on tap.

The casino will offer live poker tables, slot machines, table games, a race and sports book, poolside gaming and a high-limit area in the 90,000-square-foot gaming area.

The 100,000-square-foot Canyon Pool will have 20 VIP cabanas, a pool cafe, pool bar and outdoor gaming.

The M resort also will boast a 20,000-square-foot space that will include a fitness center and salon. Plans show 17 treatment rooms; sauna, steam and whirlpool bath areas; and tanning and locker rooms.

Surface, valet and garage parking will make up the 4,000 parking spaces.

The hotel will be situated 400 feet higher than Strip casinos, which will give the M views of the Las Vegas skyline from every room, restaurant and lobby.

"It's going to give (Henderson) an incredible presence on Las Vegas Boulevard," Henderson City Manager Mary Kay Peck said.

The M will employ about 2,000 people once the property opens and about 1,200 construction workers during the building phase.

"I want the M to be known for the service," Marnell said.

Gibson said there already is a lot of interest for businesses to build near the M and that the resort has set the standard.

Marnell promised many more secrets, which he said he would save for the opening.
