In an evening that promises to be as glamorous as it does advantageous, the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas will host its annual Vodka Latka party, a convivial Hanukkah celebration open to more than just the social set.

The party will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Tryst Nightclub at the Wynn Las Vegas.

"We welcome everyone who is interested in being involved in their community," federation representative Bethany DeFranesco said. "You don't have to be Jewish, although many of the people who patronize this party are. You don't have to be single. You don't have to be married. You just have to be sociable."

The gala will feature cocktails, conversation and complimentary VIP re-entry into the club after 9:30 p.m.

The Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, a nonprofit humanitarian organization with a history of community service for more than 30 years, hosts the ball as part of a community outreach program. According to DeFranesco, Vodka Latka is meant to create and build relationships.

"Of course, it's about having a good time, but it's more than that," DeFranesco said. "We want to let people know that we're a significant part of this community and that we want to fellowship with them. This party is a great way for people to meet other members of the Jewish community. And if you're not Jewish, we still want you to come. Come meet your neighbors."

Party planners project that more than 600 people will attend this year's event in celebration of the Festival of Lights.

"There is no average age or status," 2006 event co-chairwoman Randi Sarno said. "We see people on the dance floor who are 21 and couples who are in their 70s. It's a great way to kick off the holiday season."

Jewel of Russia Vodka, which also creates custom cocktails for the party, will sponsor the gala.

"They mix drinks just for this occasion," Sarno said. "It's really something else when you think about it. We're so excited about the entire evening. It's going to be a blast."

Tickets can be purchased at www.jewishlasvegas.com and are $45 if purchased by Friday or $55 at the door. For more information, call 732-0556.
