THE DISTRICT HAS LIVE HOLIDAY MUSIC THROUGH DEC. 22

Terrible's 400 Desert Race to be held Saturday

The Henderson's Terrible 400 Desert Race returns Saturday for its sixth year in the Eldorado Valley, located between Henderson and Boulder City. More than 30 classes of series championships will compete for the final trophy of the year as the Best in the Desert six-race series comes to an end.

Considered the fastest course in the Best in the Desert race series, the Henderson's Terrible 400 Desert Race features more than 200 cars, trucks, buggies, motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles.

Additionally, race enthusiasts will enjoy free ancillary events taking place in the Water Street District in downtown Henderson from Thursday through Sunday. Some events include a Street Party with vehicle displays on Thursday evening, a live concert on Friday, races all day Saturday and an awards ceremony on Sunday morning.

ST. ANDREW'S DAY CELEBRATION SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY

A St. Andrew's Day Worship Service and Kirkin o' the Tartan will be observed in a traditional Scottish Service with piper and dancers at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Henderson Presbyterian Church, 601 N. Major Ave. A Scottish coffee will follow the service.

Wear your kilts and plaids. Calling of the clans and blessing of the tartans will be part of the service. This event is sponsored by the St. Andrews Society of Southern Nevada and the Henderson Presbyterian Church. For information, call 223-8040 or 565-9684.

GROUP SEEKS DONATIONS FOR PEOPLE SERVING IN THE MILITARY

Soldiers' Angels, a nonprofit group of volunteers founded by the mother of a Nevada soldier, seeks to provide aid and comfort items to those serving in the armed forces during the holidays. Soldiers' Angels will be collecting holiday stocking stuffers such as packets of tea and coffee, individually wrapped candy, white athletic socks, AA batteries, international phone cards, beef jerky, Kool-Aid and Crystal Light On the Go drink packets through Sunday.

Items will be shipped to Air Force and Marines units deployed from Nellis Air Force Base. Drop-off locations include Dunkin' Donuts, 171 N. Gibson Road in Henderson from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.; UNLV's Student Union, 4504 S. Maryland Parkway, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Impress Communications, 2800 W. Sahara Ave., Suite F, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD MONDAY

The University of Southern Nevada will hold its eighth annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday at the Cascata Golf Club in Boulder City.

The event will begin with registration and a continental breakfast at 6:30 a.m. The scramble commences with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. A luncheon and raffle will be held after the tournament. Single golfer and golf foursomes are available. Participants in the golf tournament will receive a gift valued at $200. Each foursome will be guided through eight miles of spectacular fairway by a caddy.

BISHOP EDDIE LONG TO SPEAK ON MONDAY

Bishop Eddie Long, pastor of a 25,000-member church in Atlanta and host of a television broadcast seen in 170 countries, will make a rare appearance in Las Vegas at 7 p.m. Monday at The Church at South Las Vegas, 3051 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. He also will speak from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 4.

Long also is in Las Vegas to participate in a series of teaching sessions involving pastors who are affiliated with the Association of Related Ministries, founded by Henderson Pastor Benny Perez, who recognized the need for church unity throughout America and the world. ARM is an organization that supports and mentors fellow pastors.

LOCAL CHORUS TO PRESENT HANDEL'S 'MESSIAH'

CITY ANNOUNCES TOYS FOR TOTS AND WINTERFEST ACTIVITIES

The Henderson Department of Cultural Arts and Tourism has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps during this holiday season as an official drop-off location for the 60th annual Toys for Tots program.

The Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St., will be collecting new and unwrapped toys from Dec. 6-9 during the WinterFest Celebration. WinterFest is a holiday festival that features free activities for the entire family.

STAR NURSERY TO COLLECT TOYS FOR TICKETS

Station Casinos and KWNR will hold the fourth annual Toys for Tickets All-Star Jam at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 inside Ovation at Green Valley Ranch Resort. The country music event helps raise toys for the Children's Advocacy Alliance while treating fans to a surprise concert from some of country music's top headliners.
