Casey Amdahl, 19, son of Beckie and Brent Albin of Las Vegas, became a U.S. sailor on July 20, in Great Lakes, Ill.

He is attending school in Fort Meade, Md., to become a mass communications specialist for the Navy.

Amdahl is a 2006 graduate of Las Vegas High School and spent four years actively involved in technical theater.

David Rowley, 12, recently was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.

David, a seventh-grader at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic School, is a First Class Boy Scout with Troop 99 and is currently a patrol leader.

He has played Little League baseball for seven years and plays volleyball for his school.

He enjoys camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, snorkeling and kayaking.

His hobbies are guitar and listening to classic rock music. He also is in the school band.

David is the son of Dave and Donna Rowley of Las Vegas.

Andrew Denning, 18, a 2007 graduate of Southern Nevada Vocational-Technical Center, has received acceptance into the ranks of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy's Regiment of Midshipmen.

Denning attended Acceptance Day ceremonies at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., on Sept. 15.

Denning, son of Todd and Kayleen Denning of Las Vegas, was nominated to attend the Academy by Congressman Jon Porter, R-Nev.

Emily Heindel, 11, a student at Hyde Park Middle School, Academy of Science and Mathematics, was selected to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., last week.

The conference includes educational activities and presentations, meetings with elected officials and key Congressional staff members on Capitol Hill, as well as visits to many historic sites.

Emily is the daughter of Keight and Anne Heindel, both of Las Vegas.

Adam Lerner, 14, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

Lerner's Eagle project was helping to plant trees over a three-day period at Opportunity Village.

Lerner, a ninth-grader at The Meadows School, is the son of Lynne and Mark Lerner of Las Vegas.

He enjoys basketball, lacrosse, snowboarding and playing drums and guitar.
