ART FOR EVERYONE: Hidden treasures
Sculptures, statues and more help give Henderson identity

Most cities have a fair amount of public art, which serves the purpose of beautifying, enlightening and gentrifying. It's easy when thinking of public art in the Las Vegas Valley to think solely of the giant kitsch and classical reproductions on the Strip, but residents know that's not the whole story.

Tucked away in the assorted neighborhoods of the valley, there is art to be found and enjoyed. Some art is easier to find than others, and some stretch the definition of what is commonly perceived of as art, but there's more of it than most folks imagine.

New craft store reports overwhelming response

Elena Futter had been waiting years for the right moment to open her craft store, and when she found out that the shops along Water Street were closing, she said, "Let's go ahead and do it."

"The timing was perfect," Futter said. "The community needed it, and the crafter response was overwhelming."
