Katie Michaels, 11, a student at St. Christopher School in North Las Vegas, has been selected to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., this fall.

The six-day conference includes educational activities and presentations, meetings with elected officials and key congressional staff members on Capitol Hill, and visits to historic sites.

Katie is the daughter of Vinnie Michaels and Kim Michaels, both of North Las Vegas.

Dayne Fernandez, 11, and Chaz Fernandez, 10, students in the Math Enrichment class at Alexander Dawson School, competed in an international math contest through the Math Olympiads Program, which has 145,000 participants from all 50 states as well as 25 other countries.

Dayne, who completed the fifth grade in June, won an award for being the top scorer at his school an award for ranking in the top 2 percent of students worldwide.

Chaz, who completed the fourth grade in June, ranked in the top 50 percent of students worldwide.

Dayne and Chaz are the sons of Kelly and Jennifer Rothman, and Anthony Fernandez.

Daniel Campbell, 9, summited Wheeler Peak in the Great Basin National Park

The peak, at 13,063 feet, is the tallest mountain entirely within the state of Nevada.

Daniel is a straight-A Gifted and Talented Education program student in the fourth grade at Bracken Magnet Elementary School for Math and Science Through Technology.

Daniel has studied tae kwon do since age 4 and he is a blue belt with High Desert Tae Kwon Do. He also attends Summerlin Junior Golf Academy.

He is the son of Kevin and Elizabeth Campbell of Las Vegas.

Miquel Henderson, 16, a student at Boulder City High School, is one of 250 students nationwide chosen to represent the United States in Germany through the U.S. Congress - Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship Program as a foreign exchange student.

Henderson left Aug. 4 to live with a host family in Halle, Germany, for the next 10 months, attending school while learning about Germany's political life. She is the daughter of Darryl and Sherri Kresser of Boulder City.
