Burned and ignored in recent years over its recommendations for parks capital improvements, the Parks and Recreation Commission this year pared down its list of priority items for the 2008-09 fiscal year to four valued at $517,000.
Those items include $50,000 -- the first set-aside payment of a five-year, $25,000-a-year plan -- for a new air support structure, also known as "the bubble" at the swimming pool, $85,000 for a shade structure and playground safety surface at Broadbent Memorial Park, $370,000 for restrooms at Bicentennial Park, and $12,000 for new scoreboards at Veterans Memorial Park.
