IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD: Best parks for kids
City's top play areas have water features, ball fields and open spaces

With cars speeding down streets, children can't play in their front yards, and backyards today really aren't big enough. But in Henderson, kids have a choice of more than 40 parks to swing, slide and run in.

Dominick Casey, superintendent of parks, said the goal is to provide as many parks as possible to make them accessible to all Henderson residents.

New ordinance means no deal for Alystra land
Potential buyer says he's not interested if he can't put a casino on site

The Alystra Casino is dead again.

Just as tennis great Jimmy Connors was about to sell the property at Boulder Highway and Sunset Road, the Henderson City Council approved an ordinance that requires gaming enterprises to be at least 5,000 feet from homes, schools and places of worship. The council voted 5-0 to pass the ordinance at its Sept. 4 meeting.
