To kick-off National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, University Medical Center Lied Adult Ambulatory Care Center staff will provide men ages 50 and older with discount screenings for prostate cancer from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1524 Pinto Lane on Wednesday.
UMC's medical staff will provide preventative screenings by performing two quick and easy tests; the prostate-specific antigen blood test and the digital rectal exam. Appointments are required and the cost is $10.
Prostate cancer strikes one in six men, according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. When the disease is found early, there are effective treatment options from which to choose.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. More than 218,000 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.
Appointments are required for a prostate cancer screening.
