LATE-NIGHT BITE: Best place to get grub
Choices range from upscale steakhouse to Russian-themed eatery

Sin City has built an international reputation and marketing campaign upon the premise that Las Vegas is a non-stop, whirlwind, pleasurable experience, where entertainment, gambling, world class shopping, eateries and party destinations converge 24 hours a day.

That may be true in many cases, but for a town that breathes by it's edgy, get-anything-you-want-anytime-you-want-it image, finding a late-night dining option that doesn't involve ordering day- old french fries from your car window can be an extremely unpleasant, frustrating and mood-crushing experience.

Triathlete makes canine care his cause

He's worked with puffer fish and manatees, wrangled alligators and helped heal horses and cattle. In a few days, he'll be taking on a different kind of challenge, but like everything else, it will be for the benefit of animals.

Local veterinarian Matthew Brooks will be competing in the ninth annual Las Vegas Triathlon, which starts at Lake Mead's Boulder Beach on Sept. 30. He's been training hard for the last few months to prepare -- he'll be swimming, cycling and running in the shorter sprint triathlon -- and it was during that training that he had an epiphany.
