CENTER OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION
In an effort to get the current economic stimulus payment of up to $1,200 to Las Vegans who qualify, Tax Centers of America is offering free tax preparation and filing for all Social Security recipients through the filing deadline of April 15.
Loren Romain, general manager and Nevada development agent for Tax Centers of America, said the service is not limited to Social Security recipients over the age of 65, but also includes veterans and those on disability.
"Anyone who is receiving Social Security can come in with their Social Security card, photo ID and their 1099G or SSI (Supplemental Security Income) form documents," Romain said, "and I review the paperwork and file. It takes all of 10 minutes."
Tax Centers of America can offer the free service through May 1, but Romain stressed that an extension must be filed with the I.R.S. by the initial April deadline.
To qualify for the federal economic stimulus payment, taxpayers must file a 2007 tax return. The economic stimulus payment can amount to up to $1,200 for married couples, plus an additional $300 per qualifying child. Single filings may receive up to $600.
