CSN TO HOST SEMINAR ON COMMUNICATIONS CAREERS

The College of Southern Nevada's Association of Students in Communication and the department of communication have scheduled the sixth annual Degrees of Communication Seminar from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the West Charleston campus, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd., Building K, Room 101.

The event is free and open to those who have an interest in communications. Industry professionals will discuss career opportunities, such as broadcast production, broadcast writing, television, public relations, advertising and radio.

CORTNEY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HOLD EMPLOYEE REUNION

Cortney Middle School, 5301 E. Hacienda Ave., will hold an all-employee reunion at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road.

The event is open to all staff members who have worked at the school since its opening 10 years ago.

The cost is $10 per person, and children younger than 10 are free. The school will provide food. For more information, call Liz LaRocco or Susie Bageant at 799-2400.

HENDERSON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SPONSORS AWARDS

The Henderson International School is sponsoring the Meritas Awards, a program that grants 20 full-tuition scholarships for high school students entering grades 9-11 from public, parochial or private schools.

To apply, students must submit an official transcript from their current school, provide two letters of recommendation and provide a written description of extracurricular involvement. The application deadline is April 18. For more information, contact Amy Hall at 818-2122.

NEVADA CONTRACTORS OFFER SCHOLARSHIP

The Nevada Contractors Association is accepting applications for its annual David Papadopulo Memorial Scholarship. Students pursuing a construction-related career with a minimum 2.5 GPA are encouraged to apply. Scholarship winners receive a $3,750 annual stipend and must be either a junior or senior enrolled at UNLV.

The entry deadline for fall semester is July 15.

CSN'S CHEYENNE CAMPUS TO HOST CAREER FAIR

The College of Southern Nevada's Cheyenne Campus will host a career fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 30 in the student lounge, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.

SHOPPING TO EDUCATE PROGRAM GETS UNDER WAY

The Galleria at Sunset mall's Shopping to Educate program is under way and runs until Oct. 31. After shopping, customers who get their receipts stamped at the mall's guest services booth can apply points toward a school of the shopper's choice based on dollars spent.

Participating schools this year include: Cox, Charlotte Hill, Lamping, Schorr, Treem, Twitchell, Vanderburg, Walker and Wolff elementary schools, as well as Garret Middle School, Mt. Olive Lutheran and St. Joseph's.
