Clark County Fair & Rodeo to begin Thursday

Event to include food, strolling entertainers, a carnival and more

Where in Nevada can a family go to see livestock, juggling forest animals and grab some of the best carnival food around? Well, the Clark County Fair & Rodeo, of course.

The yearly event will return Thursday at the fairgrounds, 1301 W. Whipple Ave., Logandale.

Megan Dulcett said that she makes the trek with her two young sons every year.

She explained that although the trip to Logandale might be long and sometimes tiring, the memories made at the fair are priceless.

"My husband looks forward to this," Dulcett said. "It's a family-building thing. It's a shame there are not more events where families can hang out and have fun without constantly being bombarded with reminders of everyday problems, everyday life."

The 21st annual fair will feature a variety of family favorites, such as pig racing, strolling entertainers and a carnival.

"We have something called the Bear Show, where you can see grizzly bears perform tricks like riding motorcycles and things like that," fair director Todd Robison said. "Pretty neat thing to watch."

Robison said that he and his staff are proud of the entire event, but that the rodeo seems to be the largest draw.

"We've really built it up to be the big main attraction," he said.

According to Robison, more than 10 percent of the crowd at the festival and rodeo travels hundreds of miles to be ringside for the bull riding, calf roping and cowboy drama events.

"Somewhere around 80,000 people will visit the fair over a four-day period," Robison said. "We put on the 20th largest rodeo in the country."

The fair also will feature a main stage, where comedic magicians, bands and other live entertainment will be presented.

"The lineup includes Las Vegas acts such as Kahuna Beach Party and magician Tim Gabrielson, who will strut their stuff," Robison said. "Should be a good time."

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
