HARMON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO HOST CARNIVAL ON FRIDAY

Harmon Elementary School, 5351 S. Hillsboro Lane, will host a carnival from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

There will be games and food, as well as entertainment by a balloon artist, a unicycle rider and a sky diver.

Le Cordon Bleu chefs prepare lunch for students

Chefs and students from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas recently prepared lunch for 50 students at Orr Middle School, 1562 E. Katie Ave. The meal was served at the Le Cordon Bleu's student-run restaurant, Café Bleu, 1451 Center Crossing Road.

GROUP RAISES FUNDS FOR FORMER RUNNIN' REBEL

The Findlay Automotive Group held a fundraising event to assist former UNLV basketball player Glen Gondrezick with medical costs associated with his pending heart transplant.

The event was held March 28 and 29 at all Findlay locations in the Las Vegas area. The company had pledged to donate $100 for every vehicle purchased at Findlay dealerships on those two days. In total, the automotive group is donating $24,900 to the Gondo Medical Fund.

Gondrezick played for the UNLV Rebels in the 1970s before playing in the NBA for six years. He has been a radio announcer for UNLV basketball for the past two decades.

HENDERSON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SPONSORS AWARDS

The Henderson International School is sponsoring the Meritas Awards, a program that grants 20 full-tuition scholarships for high school students entering grades 9-11 from public, parochial or private schools. The scholarships are available for students with strong academic backgrounds and who are skilled particularly in one or more of the following: music, theater, dance, visual arts and athletics.

To apply, students must submit an official transcript from their current school, provide two letters of recommendation and provide a written description of extracurricular involvement. The application deadline is Friday. For more information, contact Amy Hall at 818-2122.

CSN'S CHEYENNE CAMPUS TO HOST CAREER FAIR

The College of Southern Nevada's Cheyenne Campus will host a career fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 30 in the student lounge, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.

SHOPPING TO EDUCATE PROGRAM GETS UNDER WAY

The Galleria at Sunset mall's Shopping to Educate program is under way and runs until Oct. 31.

After shopping, customers who get their receipts stamped at the mall's guest services booth can apply points toward a school of the shopper's choice based on dollars spent.

Participating schools this year include: Cox, Charlotte Hill, Lamping, Schorr, Treem, Twitchell, Vanderburg, Walker and Wolff elementary schools, as well as Garret Middle School, Mt. Olive Lutheran and St. Joseph's.

NEVADA CONTRACTORS OFFER SCHOLARSHIP

The Nevada Contractors Association is accepting applications for its annual David Papadopulo Memorial Scholarship.

Students pursuing a construction-related career with a minimum 2.5 GPA are encouraged to apply. Scholarship winners receive a $3,750 annual stipend and must be either a junior or senior enrolled at UNLV.

The entry deadline for fall semester is July 15. For more information, call 222-0320.

BE THE EXAMPLE CONFERENCE SET AT DEL SOL HIGH SCHOOL

The first Be the Example Conference will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 25 at Del Sol High School, 3100 E. Patrick Lane.

The motivational event will feature speakers and informational booths aimed toward local students.
