Soft surfaces, different textures, bright colors -- it all adds up to fun for toddlers.
Patricia Tejeda and her sister Nancy Barron opened My Little Garden, an indoor play area for little children, on Dec. 1 at 2400 N. Buffalo Drive, Suite 105.
"Being from California, I took my daughter to the park every day," said Tejeda, a former law secretary. "But here, the weather was not conducive to that. I thought there should be a place for little ones."
The 922-square-foot storefront is virtually covered in vinyl-covered foam for crawling, climbing and learning to walk. Music sets the tone for playing with soft toys and noise makers are meant to keep things interesting.
Up to a dozen children can be accommodated at a time, ages 5 and younger. Rates are $7 per child per visit, no time limit. Group rates are available, and the facility can accommodate private parties.
Tina Rieb, coordinator for a Summerlin-area Mommy and Me group, said My Little Garden is a welcome new addition to its list of locations.
Rieb is involved with Mommy & Me West, a play group with more than 200 members. She saw a flier about My Little Garden, investigated it, and said she was impressed by its cleanliness.
Rieb soon added it to the group's calendar of play dates.
"As a mom of two kids, I'm always looking for a place for them to have a good time," she said.
Roughly 15 of the mothers have children ages 4 or younger, and the play group's first visit was a lot of fun, she said.
"This is a great concept," Rieb said.
My Little Garden also offers pre-ballet classes, sign and singing classes, birthday parties and other small events.
