DON'T PARK NEAR NO PARKING SIGNS AT ANTHEM PARK

My wife and I live near Anthem Park. It's a great place and good for the community. However, despite the hard work of the Henderson Police, and the redesigned driving/parking set up, there are still enough lazy, ignorant parents who either can't read or choose to ignore the law. Every weekend, the park is full of kids. Most are brought to the park by their parent. They are there to watch as the kids exercise while playing soccer, football, lacrosse and other park activities. There is abundant parking on the north side of Reunion (Drive), in the parking lot of the park, and at the nearby middle school.

The south side of Reunion (Drive), from Eastern (Avenue) to Lyrical (Road) is clearly marked as a bike lane and has "No Parking at Anytime" signs posted about every 20 feet. Stevie Wonder could see them! Still, every Saturday and Sunday, there are morons who choose to park illegally and risk the lives of their kids as they open their door and let them out to cross traffic on a narrow curve to get to the park. How lazy and ignorant can you be? Your kids are there to exercise. Try it! Park and walk the extra hundred yards. It may do you some good. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed by a driver when Mom or Dad flop out of their Land Rover so as not to have to walk a bit.

The signs are meant for everyone. Stop risking your kids' lives. We will continue to call the police every time we see you bozos parked directly under the "No Parking" signs. Maybe the fear of a fine is more important to you than the life of your child.

PANORAMA SUBDIVISION OF SUNRISE NO LONGER NICE

I read the reader's view section of the Sunrise (View) Neighborhood newspaper and decided to write to you about my concerns for my neighborhood. I was one of the first residents in the Panorama subdivision 15 years ago. In the beginning it was a nice neighborhood, but in the last few years it has gone downhill, and quickly. The amount of trash on the streets, lack of supervision of the children by their parents and the number of animals I see roaming loose tends to destroy neighborhoods. I try and walk my dog every evening, but this is getting harder to do. The amount of dog feces on the sidewalks and the broken glass is almost impossible to get around. I cannot believe a dog owner would allow their dog to defecate on the sidewalk and then not clean it up. It makes me wonder how these people live in their own homes. My belief is your dwelling is just a small part of your home, and your neighborhood is the remainder. Would you leave feces on your living room floor? Would you allow your children to break bottles in your backyard? That's what you're doing when you don't pick up after your animal, or supervise your children. The attitude of it's not in my yard so why should I care doesn't fly. When you allow your neighborhood to become trashy and don't do anything about it, you are the problem. Your property values decrease, vandalism goes up, and it becomes an invitation to continue the behaviors. I pick up trash almost every day, but I can only do so much. It's time we all started taking pride in our homes and stop the behaviors now. I even had an acquaintance, not knowing where I lived, make the comment about this side of town being the "slums." Right now that isn't true, but if we don't do something, and soon, it will be.

BEARS PERFORMING TRICKS IS NOT HUMANE AMUSEMENT

The "Clark County Fair" ("Clark County Fair & Rodeo offers family fun," View Neighborhood Newspapers, April 8), falls short of something Nevada residents should be proud of. That there are still members of civilized society who think it is entertainment to force "grizzly bears [to] perform tricks like riding motorcycles" is disturbing to say the least. Bull riding and calf roping has long since been exposed for the inhumane cruelty it inflicts on animals regardless of the inadequate protection laws for animals in rodeos. A true cowboy would respect, not dominate, a helpless animal. Even country music icon Willie Nelson has proclaimed, "As a cowboy, I must stand up for cows." Enjoy the carnival food and magicians, but leave animal cruelty and abuse to those individuals looking to go to jail.
