CENTENNIAL HILLS LIBRARY: Beyond books
More than 45,000-square-foot facility to open in 2009 with an art gallery, bookstore, cafe and lounge overlooking park

Residents will get their first glimpse of the rest of Centennial Hills Park on Friday when the city of Las Vegas officially opens the park's Phase III, including a spiffy new amphitheater, an educational trail with information about the area's paleontological significance, lots of grassy open space and a big playground.

But it's not over yet. Neighbors attending the opening event won't be able to miss the construction at the corner of Buffalo Drive and Deer Springs Way, the site for the Centennial Hills Library.

Neighborhood revitalization result of three-part effort
City, health district and police work to clean up rental properties

Las Vegas City Council, the Southern Nevada Health District and the Metropolitan Police Department recently joined forces to shape up a run-down residential neighborhood near West Lake Mead Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive, and City Councilman Ricki Barlow said the joint effort already has resulted in great improvement.

At its July 16 meeting, the City Council voted to assess $500 daily civil penalties to three property owners on Bellota Drive. The four-plex rental properties were considered abandoned and neglected, and city officials said the property owners had ignored multiple code enforcement notices and orders for almost six months.
