ADVOCACY

Senior Coalition to meet Aug. 7 at 10 a.m.

The Nevada Seniors Coalition will meet Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. in Boulder Station's Chardonnay Room to discuss community issues.

The coalition is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group concerned with taxes, crime, legislation, prescriptions and traffic.

The Thursday meeting is open to the public.

Senior Law Project schedules 3 meetings

Do you have legal questions pertaining to health care or financial matters? If so, these informative workshops offer great opportunities to talk with an attorney and get to the bottom of those nagging questions.

The free Senior Law Project Coffee Talk sessions get under way across the valley on Aug. 8 at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, 229-1702; Aug. 25 at the Downtown Senior Services Center, 310 S. 9th St., 229-6596; Aug. 25 at the Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., 229-1600; and Aug. 29 at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, 229-6454.

All workshops will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

DANCE

Get ready to test your square dance moves

The Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services will co-host a summer square dance and hoedown Aug. 16 at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. and is scheduled to run to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 per person.

Guest callers Ron Sowash, Mike Wilder and Francois Lamoureux will entertain as they lead dancers around the floor. Participants will learn new dances, as well as enjoy old favorites.

Cafe talk to serve up otherworldly fare

Do you believe in things that go bump in the night? If so, POINTers In Person Chapter #11 of the Southern Nevada Italian Family History/Italian Genealogy group's next meeting is one you won't want to miss.

The event, set for Aug. 10, will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Carluccio's Tivoli Gardens, 1775 E. Tropicana Ave., and will feature John Hosier, general manager of Carluccio's. Hosier will speak on the history of the property and paranormal activities that have been reported at the site over the years.

Members and nonmembers are welcome.

Free harp concert scheduled for Aug. 22

Because everyone loves a free concert, the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., invites everyone to a complimentary performance of singing harpist Kathy Kavanaugh, Aug. 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Kavanaugh will perform all styles of music, and she sings in Spanish, Tagalog, Hebrew, French, Italian, German and English.

HEALTH

Foot-care clinic set for Aug. 26, 1 to 4 p.m.

Representatives of Nevada Health Centers will be at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, on Aug. 26 to consult with seniors 50 years old and over on a variety of foot-care-related issues.

Those under 50 years old may make appointments for at $25 charge.

The clinic is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sign up for a free massage, Aug. 18

Don't you just love the feeling of a massage? And a free massage is even better.

Seniors can sign up for complimentary massage therapy courtesy of students from the Northwest Health and Careers program.

Massages will take place at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., Aug. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Hearing test offered free of charge

Free hearing exams will be conducted by the staff of Hearing by Design, Aug. 29, at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Bring your hearing aid and any questions you have regarding their care or your hearing ability.

Oxygen support group to meet Aug. 15

O2 On the Go, a support group for people with pulmonary disease, is set for Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the H2U Office, 8524 Del Webb Blvd.

Topics will include how to live healthy despite an asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema diagnosis.
