SPOTLIGHT ON: LUV-IT
505 E. Oakey Blvd., 384-6452
Luv-it, that wonderful, unassuming frozen custard stand that opened in 1973, is the perfect spot to find that cold and creamy dessert that is needed following lunch or dinner, or whenever there is an urge to satisfy your sweet tooth. Enjoy a Western Sundae (hot fudge, caramel and pecans) or Luv-it Special (strawberry and pecans). Luv-it differs from ice cream in both taste and texture. The custard is made fresh daily using only cream and eggs and comes in many flavors, some only available on certain days of the week. Always ask. It might be butter pecan, Rocky Road, cheesecake, almond chip, peach, lemon or banana nut. If you're a first-timer, don't let the one window service counter deter you. Start by ordering a vanilla cone to appreciate the taste and texture. Then move into a milkshake or sundae, such as hot fudge, marshmallow, black cherry, peach or strawberry. Special sundaes are Desert (hot fudge, marshmallow and pecans), Scotch Jimmie (butterscotch, sliced bananas and jimmies) and Tuti Fruti (peach, pineapple and peanuts). There are four Super Sundaes: Banana Luv (hot fudge and banana), banana split, Fruit Boat (peach, pineapple, cherry and banana) and Swiss brownie nut. Luv-it is open from 1 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, from 1 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and is closed on Sunday and Monday. -- Jack Bulavsky
