HEALTH DISTRICT CONFIRMS SALMONELLA CASE
The Southern Nevada Health District has confirmed that one local case of Salmonella Saintpaul has been linked to the current nationwide outbreak. There have been 11 cases reported in the state, most in Northern Nevada, the health district stated.
People who are infected often experience fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramping 12 to 72 hours following exposure. Not all people who have been exposed will develop symptoms, and an infected person may spread the illness for several days or months, according to the health district.
Frequent hand washing is one way to prevent the spread of salmonella. Also, avoid raw milk or undercooked eggs, meat or poultry, the health district stated.

HEALTH DISTRICT REPORTS MEASLES CASE
The Southern Nevada Health District announced that an individual visiting Las Vegas on June 20 and 21 recently was diagnosed with a laboratory-confirmed case of the measles.
Because individuals who are not immune to the measles might have been exposed during the patient's visit, the health district is alerting the community to the possibility of measles transmission so that valley residents have an opportunity to get measles immunization, and anyone who develops the malady may seek medical attention.

REGISTRY ACTIVATED for Hepatitis C exposure
The Southern Nevada Health District announced that it has concluded an investigation into the acute case of hepatitis C associated with the Desert Shadow Endoscopy Center, 4725 Burnham Ave., Suite 101.
Patients of this clinic are encouraged to discuss their risk for disease transmission with their physician and to pursue testing for hepatitis C, hepatitis B and HIV.
The district has obtained a list of patients from the clinic location, and a letter outlining the investigation findings and current recommendations will be sent out.
The district also announced the implementation of a Hepatitis C Exposure Registry in an effort to gather additional information related to patients of both the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada and the Desert Shadow Endoscopy Center.
The registry was developed to assist in the identification of patients who had procedures at these clinics, and will allow patients who have tested positive the opportunity to learn their case classification.
