Thrips damage nectarines

Question: Our nectarine tree had fruit that was scarred and poorly formed. Is there any spray that I can apply to keep bugs and whatever is causing this problem off the developing fruit?

For the most part, your description of this particular problem narrows it down to western flower thrips damage.

For controlling thrips, we use a pesticide listed as spinosad under the ingredients, which also works for the wormy peaches. For homeowners in this area, the only source of spinosad is in the product called Ferti-lome Borer, Bagworm, Tent Caterpillar & Leaf Miner Spray.

This product is sprayed on developing fruit starting just after the petals drop from the flowers. This probably is sometime in late February and early March. The spray must be repeated according to the label. A single application will not be enough to control the damage.
