Contest Showcases Young Talent

A free talent show is under way at the Suncoast, 9090 W. Alta Drive, and includes youngsters from across the valley. The first week saw competition between those ages 8 to 12, with the finalists being Carly Renner, 11, of Green Valley; and Rachel Zhang, 8, of Anthem. The second week featured those ages 13 to 15, with the finalists being Malia Civetz, 14, of Anthem; and Kasey Phillips, 14, of Green Valley. The third week included participants ages 16 to 18. The finalists in that competition were Lynda DeFuria, 18, of Henderson; and sisters Paige and Stephanie Melanson, ages 16 and 17, respectively, of Las Vegas. All finalists will square off during the concluding competition at 2 p.m. Thursday, when three winners will be named. All finalists receive $100, and the winners get an additional $100 each.
