FUNDRAISER PLANNED FOR COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA

From noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 12, there will be a family day picnic at Queensridge North in the gazebo area at 310 Regents Park. Western High School's class of 1968 will hold its 40th reunion on Oct. 10 and 11. At 6 p.m. on Oct. 10, the group is meeting at The Lodge at Tenaya, 5717 Sky Pointe Drive. At 10 a.m. on Oct. 11, take a tour of the remodeled Western High School, 4601 Bonanza Road, and at noon, meet at Centennial Hills Park, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, for a family picnic. Bring your own meals, and drinks and dessert will be provided. All events are free and open to the whole family.

FUNDRAISER FOR ACHIEVEMENT ACADEMY TO BE HELD

There will be a dinner to benefit the Achievement Academy, an institution focused on teaching children with high-functioning autism, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the Rio Pavillion, 3700 W. Flamingo Road.

The Leadership University is a leadership program for young people through which they learn team building, collaboration, negotiation, creative thinking and problem solving.

VISION SOURCE SCHOLARSHIP SEARCH UNDER WAY

Applications for Vision Source Las Vegas' See the Change Scholarship are available at www.visionsourcevegas.com, through the Clark County School District or at any one of the 11 Vision Source offices. The company is giving away three $1,000 awards. Scholarship recipients must be students intending to pursue a degree in a health-, medicine- or science-related field in fall 2009 at a four-year college or university. Applications must be received in person at a local Vision Source office no later than March 20, 2009.

MEDICAL SKILLS INSTITUTE OFFERS $5,000 SCHOLARSHIP

Medical Skills for Life Institute is offering a $5,000 scholarship toward tuition to the first 20 students who enroll and are accepted into the medical assistant program by Sept. 8. Call the admissions department at 645-7900.

HUMAN RESOURCE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM OFFERED

The International School of Hospitality is offering the Hospitality Human Resources Certificate Program, which will cover the cycle of personnel management from entry to development to maintenance to exit. The course is divided into 16 sections, including industry recruiting, human resource law, the labor market, training needs assessment and performance appraisals.

Organization collecting school supplies

HELP of Southern Nevada currently is accepting new backpacks and school supplies for children of all age groups returning to school in August. School supplies needed are backpacks, crayons, pens, pencils, colored pencils, glue sticks, notebooks, folders, loose leaf paper, scissors, small sandwich bags, calculators, Kleenex and hand sanitizer.

Many of HELP's clients do not have enough money to purchase school supplies for their children after paying day-to-day bills. HELP of Southern Nevada works with low-income individuals and families, helping them become more self-sufficient and less dependent upon government assistance.

THE PUBLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO GIVE AWARDS

The Public Education Foundation will honor Jan Jones and Brian Cram at its 2008 Education Hero Award Dinner on Sept. 20, at the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas, 3960 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Jones, senior vice president of communication and government affairs for Harrah's Entertainment, will receive the Education Hero Award, and Cram, former superintendent of the Clark County School District, will receive the Lifetime Education Achievement Award.

The dinner is a community event and tickets are available for $750 per person. All proceeds support the foundation's programs and initiatives designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Southern Nevada's public schools. For more information, call Deb Hegna at 799-1042.

RANCHO ALUMNUS SEEKS PHOTOS FOR DVD
