Henderson has seen many changes during its 55-year history, and another evolution is under way.

In March 2009, the city's first Strip hotel and casino, The M Resort, will open.

"This has been five years in the making," said Anthony A. Marnell III, founder, chairman and chief executive officer. "We're excited beyond belief."

Marnell held the resort's official topping-off ceremony on Aug. 8, and although there still is work to be done, the building's modern design is coming through at Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway.

Marnell commented on the economy and said The M Resort is going to have to be more creative in the way products are delivered because things are tough.

"The city (of Henderson) has been fantastic," Marnell said. "They've been very welcoming."

Marnell said the unique architecture has not been seen in Las Vegas before. He described it as a plush, warm, clean modern design and said the land will be heavily landscaped.

The resort is being built on more than 90 master-planned acres and is situated 400 feet higher in elevation than other casinos on Las Vegas Boulevard, providing optimal views of the Strip.

"We're bringing the ideas used on the Las Vegas Strip to locals," Marnell said. "I'm not sure there are any unique ideas left in Las Vegas. It's all about how you present them."

Almost 400 guest rooms and suites, featuring loft suites, corner suites and one-bedroom suites, will be in the tower.

Nine restaurants are planned for the resort, including a steak and seafood eatery and an Italian restaurant, which will have outdoor terraces with views of the Strip. A wine cellar will be situated below the restaurants, and wine tastings will be available. The M's buffet will feature a live-action cooking studio, where television shows can be filmed.

The resort will have the 100,000-square-foot Villaggio Del Sole Pool with 20 VIP cabanas, a pool cafe, a pool bar and outdoor gaming. The M also will offer a 23,000-square-foot spa, including a fitness center and salon. There will be treatment rooms and sauna, steam and whirlpool spa areas.

The casino will have more than 92,000 square feet of gaming, with 1,800 video poker and slot machines, 64 table games, a high-limit area, live action poker room, a race and sports book and poolside gaming.

There will be 4,000 structured and surface parking spaces and 600 covered valet parking spaces.

"My community is looking forward to The M Resort," said Sun City Anthem resident Dianne R. Davis. "We want a place where we can go with friends and hear each other speak."

Davis said she also is excited because Marnell keeps talking about customer service.

"We're bringing service back to this city," Marnell said. "It will be the way it was 15 or 20 years ago."
