ROSILAND BROOKS: Changing oil and lives
North Las Vegas resident hopes to open homeless shelter with profits

When former elementary school teacher Rosiland Brooks quit her job with the Clark County School District in July to open a business that she hopes will yield enough profit for her to open and maintain a homeless day shelter, some people just didn't get it.

"I'm sure some people thought I was crazy," Brooks said. "But this is my calling."

Band combines country and punk music

In a music industry era when genres are clearly defined and work of an ambiguous thematic nature is looked down upon, renegade musician Quint Olsen is breaking down the barriers between two iconic genres every chance he gets.

Olsen, front man and founder of the rockabilly band Quint & the Cowpunk Calamity, began blending punk rock classics with country twang last year, not long after forming the band.
