BARBERSHOP CHORUS OFFERS SINGING VALENTINES

The Las Vegas City Of Lights Barbershop Chorus, a nonprofit organization that provides support and help to local schools to encourage vocal music, is raising money through its Singing Valentines program.

A typical Singing Valentine includes love songs, sung in barbershop harmony, a card and a long-stemmed rose, all presented by a barbershop quartet in formal attire.

Delivery will be on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, and will be performed at any location of your choice. For more information, call 437-2037.

CULINARY SCHOOL HOSTING TEEN CHEF COMPETITION

The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Las Vegas is hosting The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Competition 2008, which is open to high school seniors in the U.S. and Canada. Top prize winners in the competition will receive a full tuition scholarship toward an associate's degree, certificate or diploma program to study culinary arts at participating Art Institute locations.

FOUNDATION SEEKS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS

The Epicurean Charitable Foundation Las Vegas is seeking applications for its annual college scholarship program. Candidates need to be senior high school students who are passionate about pursuing a career in the hospitality and culinary arts industries.

Scholarship applications are available online at www.ecflv.org and must be submitted by March 7.

GALLERIA MALL TO DONATE MONEY TO SOUTHEAST SCHOOLS

The Galleria at Sunset mall's Shopping to Educate program is under way and runs until Oct. 31. After shopping, customers who get their receipts stamped at the mall's guest services booth can apply points toward a school of the shopper's choice based on dollars spent.

Participating schools this year include: Cox, Hill, Lamping, Schorr, Treem, Twitchell, Vanderburg, Walker and Wolff elementary schools, as well as Garret Middle School, Mt. Olive Lutheran and St. Joseph.

POLITICIANS TO PRESENT PARENT INVOLVEMENT SUMMIT

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS

The Ronald McDonald House of Las Vegas and the McDonald's Owner Operators of Greater Las Vegas are offering scholarships to local graduating seniors with a 2.5 cumulative unweighted GPA who plan to attend an accredited, post-secondary education institution in the fall of 2008. The required application documents must be completed and returned to the Ronald McDonald house by March 7.

SCHOOL NEEDS TOUR GUIDES

Adult volunteers are needed as tour guides at the McCaw School of Mines, 57 Lynn Lane. Tours are booked from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Monday through Friday throughout the regular nine-month school year. Volunteers can pick and choose the day(s) they wish to work.

TRUSTEES TO MEET THROUGHOUT MONTH

The Clark County School District Board of School Trustees will host a meeting at 9 a.m. on Monday and at 4 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 28.
