The Las Vegas City Of Lights Barbershop Chorus, a nonprofit organization that provides support and help to local schools to encourage vocal music, is raising money through its Singing Valentines program.
A typical Singing Valentine includes love songs, sung in barbershop harmony, a card and a long-stemmed rose, all presented by a barbershop quartet in formal attire.

The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Las Vegas is hosting The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Competition 2008, which is open to high school seniors in the U.S. and Canada. The Galleria at Sunset mall's Shopping to Educate program is under way and runs until Oct. 31. After shopping, customers who get their receipts stamped at the mall's guest services booth can apply points toward a school of the shopper's choice based on dollars spent.
Participating schools this year include: Cox, Hill, Lamping, Schorr, Treem, Twitchell, Vanderburg, Walker and Wolff elementary schools, as well as Garret Middle School, Mt. Olive Lutheran and St. Joseph.
